Principal
Norma O’Brien joined The Mifflin County Academy of Science and Technology during the 2019-2020 school year. She is originally from Saegertown, PA where she graduated from Saegertown Junior/Senior High School.
Her educational background includes a Bachelor’s degree from Mansfield University in Criminal Justice Administration and minor’s in Social Welfare and Sociology. After graduation, she worked in a residential facility counseling delinquent and dependent youth while also attending Marywood University to complete her master’s degree in Counselor Education. Most recently she earned a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study in Principal K-12 from Shippensburg University.
Prior to taking on this role, she was a secondary school counselor for sixteen years. She has served students and families at Mifflin County Middle School, East Juniata High School and Brookville Junior/Senior High School. During that time, she also served as an advisor for National Honor Society, was the Student Assistance Program Coordinator, and the Suicide Prevention Coordinator for Mifflin County School District.
She has worn a variety of hats over the years, but the hat that she is most proud and passionate to wear is her mother & family cap. Every decision she makes comes through the lens of being a family-mom. She strives to have all students feel safe, valued, and supported as they prepare for what lays ahead, wherever that path leads them. Each person who invests in Academy will be part of an amazing team and family.
